Chromatic Wednesdays is a monthly interdisciplinary event series based in Berlin, organized by visual artist and filmmaker Emre Birişmen and sound artist Melih Sarıgöl. The series brings together various artistic practices, including performance, sound, moving image, and panel discussions, in thematically structured programs at different venues across the city.

Chromatic Wednesdays, which previously centered around the Apartment Project space in Neukölln, will transition to a mobile and decentralized structure for its upcoming fourth and fifth seasons. This shift aims to encourage stronger collaborations, emphasize site-specific thinking, and build new connections that reflect the social and cultural fabric of Berlin.

ESCARGOT À LA ROSTROPOVICH!

Concert by Éponj
Marie Takahashi / Viola
Anil Eraslan / Cello
Antonio Borghini / Contrabass

Never be sure what to expect: Éponj stretches the possibilities of improvisation to the limits, fusing composed and improvised elements in unique performances. Based in Berlin and active since 2019, Éponj is a string trio consisting of Marie Takahashi (viola), Anil Eraslan (cello), and Antonio Borghini (contrabass). They are among the protagonists of a new and strong movement of improvisers exploring new ways of integrating written and oral compositions with improvisation in the form of music, movements, and words. They discover chamber music from new perspectives and experiment with its rather unexplored potential by combining it with voices, body movements, graphic scores, oral songs, and traditional musical forms. Each performance happens anew as they bring these elements into a different arrangement, without a foreseeable pattern.

Éponj’s concert drew on the Chromatic Wednesdays theme of improvisation under the title «Escargot à la Rostropovich!». It opened a new round of Chromatic Wednesdays, a bi-weekly series of events aimed to bring together creative thinkers from a wide range of disciplines. To look back at past realizations, the event first showed the video «A look back at the first season of Chromatic Wednesdays» (in English), followed by the concert by Éponj.
