Chromatic Wednesdays is a monthly interdisciplinary event series based in Berlin, organized by visual artist and filmmaker Emre Birişmen and sound artist Melih Sarıgöl. The series brings together various artistic practices, including performance, sound, moving image, and panel discussions, in thematically structured programs at different venues across the city.

Chromatic Wednesdays, which previously centered around the Apartment Project space in Neukölln, will transition to a mobile and decentralized structure for its upcoming fourth and fifth seasons. This shift aims to encourage stronger collaborations, emphasize site-specific thinking, and build new connections that reflect the social and cultural fabric of Berlin.

Mutualism

 MITEINANDER - AN EXPLORATION

Workshop with Birgit Auf der Lauer & Caspar Pauli

In what form does mutualism express itself in interpersonal relationships? Birgit Auf der Lauer and Caspar Pauli investigate this question in their workshop «MitEinAnder – an exploration» («Miteinander» means togetherness) drawing on performative practices, landscape painting, neuroscience, and exercises that Buddha already knew. They ask what possibilities there are to explore, negotiate, and shape togetherness beyond language. During the workshop, they invite participants to work together on a large sheet of paper to create a picture under their feet that can unfold playfully with brush and ink in silence and concentration. Since there are few instructions and no preconceived plans, participants will create the image primarily through their senses and impulses. In the process, dots can meet contours or cross surfaces, so that lines dissolve in a dance of turbidity.

The workshop begins with attention and sensory exercises to get in the mindset of creating together. Self-deepening is the key to widening perception and opening up to processes of mutualism. At the end of the evening, participants can take with them a piece of the picture they have created together.

Birgit Auf der Lauer (b. 1981, Romania) and Caspar Pauli (b. 1984, Cologne) have been working together since 2011. Trained in performance art, research, stage design, and painting, they create installations, workshops, performance, and video. They focus on the immediate and complex realities of life locally in their surroundings as well as far away when they embark on research trips to other cities and countries. In doing so, they are interested in initiating communal healing processes with artistic impulses, as well as exploring voids of collective history in neighborhoods, archives, or borderlands.
