Chromatic Wednesdays is a monthly interdisciplinary event series based in Berlin, organized by visual artist and filmmaker Emre Birişmen and sound artist Melih Sarıgöl. The series brings together various artistic practices, including performance, sound, moving image, and panel discussions, in thematically structured programs at different venues across the city.

Chromatic Wednesdays, which previously centered around the Apartment Project space in Neukölln, will transition to a mobile and decentralized structure for its upcoming fourth and fifth seasons. This shift aims to encourage stronger collaborations, emphasize site-specific thinking, and build new connections that reflect the social and cultural fabric of Berlin.

SHE - PIGEON

Concept, Text, Performance:
Selin Davasse
With citations from:
Lucille Clifton, Michelle Tea and Monique Wittig
Hair and make-up:
Henriette Theuergarten

In this episode of Chromatic Wednesdays, Selin Davasse slipped into the role of She-Pigeon: a filthy pigeon with a cooing cunt who pecks at the feet of the audience in Kreuzberg’s Ölberg-Kirche. Libidinous literature in vulgar vulviform verse rains down like pigeon droppings. The melodies of the church organ mingle with the voice of the pigeon. All the while, Selin Davasse reflects on the politics of pollution, disgust, and exclusion.

Whereas in Christian tradition, the Holy Spirit often appears in the form of a dove, She-Pigeon represents the marginalized version of the dove. Domesticated by humans and made the epitome of urban filth, she became the object of hatred for city dwellers. As a dirty dove, she reminds us of the downsides of the city.

Selin Davasse (b. 1992, Ankara) lives and works in Berlin. Her performative practice translates research findings from various disciplines to textual, visual, and sonic textures. Weaving theory, history, and fiction with feminine voices, her work engages with ethical/political impasses and takes shape as multilayered lecture-performances with site-specific installations.

Her performances have been presented at Hacer Noche, Oaxaca (2022), Kunsthalle Bratislava (2022), Škuc Gallery, Ljubljana (2022), Wiener Festwochen, Vienna (2022), Volksbühne, Berlin (2020–2021), Slavs and Tatars’ Pickle Bar at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2020), and Queer Art, Culture, and Politics from Turkey and its Diaspora Symposium at Goldsmiths College, London (2020).
