Chromatic Wednesdays is a monthly interdisciplinary event series based in Berlin, organized by visual artist and filmmaker Emre Birişmen and sound artist Melih Sarıgöl. The series brings together various artistic practices, including performance, sound, moving image, and panel discussions, in thematically structured programs at different venues across the city.

Chromatic Wednesdays, which previously centered around the Apartment Project space in Neukölln, will transition to a mobile and decentralized structure for its upcoming fourth and fifth seasons. This shift aims to encourage stronger collaborations, emphasize site-specific thinking, and build new connections that reflect the social and cultural fabric of Berlin.

Current Team:                     Emre Birişmen – Lead / Coordination / Video Production
Melih Sarıgöl –  Lead / Administration / Sound Production
Beril Ece Güler - Graphic Design / Production Asisstant

19:30 Sound Performance "Neuromorphic Synthesis" by Bruno Gola
20:30 Sound Performance by Nico Daleman & Mariana Carvalho
21:20 Performance “Lament: transmutation” by Margherita Pevere

Our multifaceted event consisting of three acts will begin with Bruno Gola’s work "Neuromorphic Synthesis". The work investigates the history and speculates on the future of computation, digital computers and Artificial Intelligence by means of experimental music, looking at modular systems as part of a hybrid analog/digital computer.

The sound performance of Nico Daleman and Mariana Carvalho recontextualizes the technological modes of listening by repurposing headphone technologies as active interfaces for sonic exploration. Through digital procedures of active noise control, echo cancellation and feedback suppression, bodies are transformed into organic filters and amplifiers.

“Lament: transmutation” (2026) is a performance by Margherita Pevere that contemplates wildfires as part of planetary breathing, and the grief that clings to their damaged regimes. In the piece, a solitary queer creature of the soil unfolds, its limbs made of red tentacles and flexible tree bark, surrounded by translucent glass sculptures. Its breathing evokes the ancestral transmutations of matter across photosynthesis and combustion, in the co-evolution of ecosystems and wildfires. The music by Ivan Penov interweaves cello and field recordings that capture the inner resonances of charred wood and the vibrations of dead bark.

THEME: VITALITY

Vitality within technology, within the cycle of life, within relationships between human and non-human agents… In the second episode under the theme we are expanding our perspective to research of death caused by wildfires as complex, vulnerable ecology rather than merely the end of life. We will search for signs of life in the connection of artificial intelligence technologies in particular, people and thoughts in multiple layers of feedback loops, always leaving space open for improvisation. Our audience is invited to unconventional modes of listening, where saturation, clicks, glitches, and spectral residues provide an opportunity to listen through interference.

ARTIST BIOS

Mariana Carvalho (São Paulo/Berlin) is a performer, musician and artist working with the body and interactions between bodies, mostly through sound, voice, technological mediation, improvisation, text, sound poetry, internal listening, contact, materials and resonance, mouth to mouth vocalization, self-built instruments and prepared piano.

Nico Daleman is a sound artist and researcher working on the relationship between listening technologies, particularly headphones and multichannel spatial audio, and the cultural environments in which they emerge. Embracing the ambiguity of technological mediation, his artistic work pursues sonic experimentation that challenges the passive listening attitudes imposed by audio technology.

Bruno Gola (Berlin, DE / São Paulo, BR) navigates and expands possibility spaces in sound and computational processes. His practice focuses on live performance, with a passion for DIY and Open Source, drawing inspiration from extreme computer music aesthetics and cybernetics thinking.

Known internationally for her otherworldly work with living matter, ecology and biotechnology, Dr Margherita Pevere is an artist and researcher addressing taboos like death, sex and vulnerability.
Known internationally for her otherworldly artworks with living matter, ecology and biotechnology, Margherita Pevere is an artist and researcher addressing taboos like death, sex and vulnerability. Her work ‘Lament’ on wildfire ecologies was awarded the COAL Prize Transformative territories mention 2024 and she was finalist for the Falling Walls Awards Category Art and Science 2023 for the body of work around her concept ‘arts of vulnerability’. Her work extends beyond the arts through collaborations across science and society. Among the projects she co-initiated there are the exhibition Membranes Out Of Order and the performance duo Fronte Vacuo.
